Limpopo is the northernmost province of South Africa. It was named after the Limpopo River that flows across the province; the name "Limpopo" has its etymological origin from the Sepedi word diphororo tša meetse - meaning strong gushing waterfalls. Sepedi language is spoken by a third of the people in the province. The capital is Polokwane, formerly named Pietersburg.
In 1994 the province was formed from the northern region of Transvaal Province and initially named Northern Transvaal. The following year, it was renamed Northern Province.

I can't afford a babysitter, Woman strangles baby to death
The incident was said to have happened at Ajagunro, Imota Ikorodu area of Lagos.
The defendant, who was arraigned on one count of murder, said she had no one to help her take care of the child after she was impregnated and thrown out of her parent's home.
Addressing the court in tears, she said, "I only finished Primary six, and I did not attend secondary school before I was impregnated.
"On that Friday night, I attended a vigil and wanted to drop the child there and run away, but didn't know what to do.
"On Saturday morning, I left the place and wrapped him up in a cloth. When I saw that nobody was with us, I put my hand on his neck and started to squeeze it till he died."
The magistrate, O.O Olatunji, who was shocked by the defendant's action, said she could have left the baby in the church for people to take, instead of killing him.
He asked, "How did you get him killed?
Was he not crying each time you pressed his neck?"
She replied, "Each time I squeezed his neck, he cried, but I just kept
pressing till he died. I don't know what entered into me."
It was learnt that Oladele lost her mother at an early age, and her
father got married to another woman. The accused was said to have been
sent out of the house soon afterwards.
The investigating police officer, Fatai Popoola, in a remand request, indicated that Odedele was arrested the day after the incident on the road.
He said she had also made confessional statements to the police.
The murder charge read, "That you, Titilayo Oladele, on November 16, 2013 at Ajagunro, Imota Ikorodu, in the Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Opeyemi Ibrahim, aged two years, by strangulating him to death with your hands and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, Nigeria 2011."
The defendant's plea was not taken, as she also did not have any legal representation or family member in court.
The police prosecutor, Cyriacus Osuji, applied for her remand pursuant to Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice, Lagos State 2011.
The magistrate granted the remand request and ordered her to be put in prison pending the Directorate of Public Prosecution advice. The case was adjourned till February 3, 2014 for mention.

Pastor Kumuyi says Christmas is idolatrous, urges members not to celebrate
The General Overseer of The Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor W.F Kumuyi on Saturday Dec 21st during their annual National December Convention warned his church members against celebrating Christmas, according to him it is idolatrous and unscriptural.
Pastor Kumuy said "We don't celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don't hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the December retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more.
"When you find anybody coming in, or any leader, trying to introduce the idolatry of mystery Babylon, that they call Christmas and you want to bring all the Christmas carol saying that is the day that Jesus was born, and you don't find that in the Acts of the Apostles or in the early church, then you don't find that in the church either. If you don't know that before, now you know,"

PHOTO: Ugandan MPs pass life imprisonment anti-gay bill
The anti-homosexuality bill also makes it a crime punishable by a prison sentence not to report gay people.
The bill drew wide condemnation when it was first introduced in 2010 and initially included the death penalty, but that was removed from the revised version passed by parliament.
The law passed on Friday sets life imprisonment as the penalty for gay sex involving an HIV-infected person, acts with minors and the disabled, as well as repeated sex offenses among consenting adults, according to the office of a spokeswoman for Uganda's parliament.
"Now anybody found practising, recruiting for or publicising homosexuality commits a felony," said Simon Lokodo, Uganda's Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity.
He added that the law provided for punishments of between two years and life behind bars.
"We will get hold of all those encouraging others to become homosexuals or lesbians. Anybody we find recruiting or using materials to promote homosexuality, we will arrest."
For the bill to be enacted it must be signed by President Yoweri Museveni. ...

When a marriage is falling apart, should you

Will life be better alone, even if that means

Shonekan calls for more PPP on infrastructure development
By William Jimoh
Former Chairman of the Interim National Government (ING) Dr. Ernest Shonekan, has called for a deeper Public Private Partnership, PPP, to improve infrastructure development in the country
He described it as an effort that will increase private investment while solving unemployment problem in Nigeria.
Shonekan stated this while delivering a keynote address at the 2nd edition of the Nigeria Leadership Summit held in Lagos.
He noted the alarming state of infrastructure development in the country, saying this has negatively affected cost of doing business in Nigeria, which has also reduced the strength of new and existing entrepreneurs to fast track the development of the county.
According to him, “Infrastructure is a big challenge to entrepreneurship in the country. The epileptic electric power supply and poor public supply of treated water means that entrepreneurs investing in the manufacturing sector must also bear additional cost of having their own standby electric power supply and bore holes. Such additional expenses often make locally ‘made products uncompetitive with their imported versions.
“Nigeria is a land of opportunities waiting for entrepreneurs to unlock them. Apart from the usual oil and gas sector, there are lots of untapped business opportunities in the agro-allied sector, solid minerals, entertainment industry, technology, telecom sector and a host of others where the country has comparative advantage.
Speaking further, Shonekan said “At the same time, the government and the private sector would need to partner more than before to improve the conditions of the existing infrastructure in the country. In particular, the government should give more opportunity for private sector involvement in the development of infrastructure particularly roads, rail lines, ports development and electric power plants, among other critical infrastructure.
He added that, “In particular, both the government and all stakeholders concerned must team up to ensure that corruption is wiped out in the country. Investors shun countries where there is corruption more so because it increases the cost of doing business and also truncates the laws for doing business.”
“Also, all hands must be on the deck to increase employment opportunities in the country and improve the quality of life of the people. Again, by involving the private sector in the development of the economy, more jobs will be created and there will be improvement in the standard of living of the people,” he urged. “The recent privatization in the electric power sector is bound to improve and stabilize power supply across the country and also encourage more entrepreneurs to invest in the sector.
“This is because government alone does not have all the resources needed for the development of the economy. A~ the same time, the private sector can· pull more resources together than the government for investment in the economy” Shonekan noted .

Lawyer, passenger found dead in car with engine running in Asaba
According to a report by Eagle Online, a lawyer and another man were found dead in a Toyota Camry car with registration number FGG 931 AE, at the popular Inter-Bau round-about in Asaba Delta State yesterday Thursday December 12th.
The lawyer and the passenger were said to be returning from a court session when they suddenly started foaming in the mouth and nose in the air-conditioned car. They were dead within minutes according to eye witnesses.
Explaining the mystery behind the deaths, a source said he believes the men were poisoned.
“They must have inhaled a poisonous substance thrown into their car from where they were coming from. If not, how would they have died inside the car they were riding in?”
The identity of the lawyer and the passenger, believed to be a bricklayer, have not been confirmed. Their bodies have been deposited at the Federal Medical Center, in Asaba.
