Goodluck Jonathan - We didn’t give ASUU ultimatum

By Samuel Oyadongha, Yenagoa

President Goodluck Jonathan has weekend, said his government did not give the  Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, an ultimatum to resume work or be sacked.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the expanded caucus meeting of the Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party held  at Government House, Yenagoa,  the President said, the Supervising Minister of Education only passed on the decision of  the Committee of Vice Chancellors.

“We didn’t give them ultimatum; it was the Committee of Vice Chancellors that took that decision. The Supervising Minister of Education only passed on the decision.”

Jonathan also said the strike embarked upon by the  ASUU  was no longer a trade dispute , but a  subversive action.

He said, “What ASUU is doing is no longer trade union. I have intervened in other labour issues before now, once I invite them they respond and after the meeting they take decision and call off the strike.

“At times we don’t even give them a long notice, unlike, in the case of ASUU that was given four days notice before the meeting. As you are meeting to resolve trade disputes, you expect the trade unions to get their officials ready.

“What was expected having met with the highest authorities in the land for long hours, was for ASUU to immediately issue statement within 12 or latest 24 hours , to state their position whether they were accepting government’s offer or not. And if they are not accepting they should state the reason for that.”

“But despite the fact that I had the longest meeting with ASUU in my political history, we did not start that meeting until around 2:00pm and the meeting ended the next day in the early hours.  As far as the government of Nigeria was concerned, all the critical people that should be in a meeting were there, so what else do they want?

“After that they didn’t meet until one week, despite the fact that you met with the highest authority. It was unfortunate one of them, Prof. Iyayi died.

“The way ASUU has conducted the matter shows they are extreme and when Iyayi died, they now said the strike was now indefinite, our children have been at home for over five months.”

UNN, ESUT announce resumption date Dec. 2

Nsukka – The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), and the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), said their academic activities would resume on Monday, Dec. 2.

They made the announcement in separate statements issued in Nsukka and Enugu on Saturday.

The Registrar of the UNN, Mr Anthony Okonta, in the statement, stressed that “normal academic activities would resume immediately.’’

The statement directed students who had outstanding examinations for the 2012/2013 session to report to their respective faculties and departments in Nsukka and Enugu campuses.

The ESUT Registrar, Mr Chris Igbokwe, also advised students and academic and non- academic staff to report to the institution on Dec. 2.

According to the statement, students are advised to return to their campuses at Agbani and Enugu campuses as the second semester examination would commence on Monday, Dec. 9.

The Federal Government had on Thursday, directed all federal universities to resume work on or before Dec. 4.

"Empty Threats That Could Not Hold Water" - ASUU Responds To Fed. Gov. Ultimatum

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on Thursday described the threat by the federal government to sack lecturers if they don't return to classroom as empty threat that could not hold water. The union said it is vindicated that the Federal government was not ready to implement resolutions reached with the union. ASUU said the threat will fail, adding that Nigerian public universities need 60,000 lecturers due to government's failure to employ more capable hands into the system. The union said federal government is wasting the time of Nigerians youths by failing to perfect the resolutions and get the strike suspended. The union added it had reasons to be wary following the failure of government to honour their promises to Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, resident doctors and other health workers who have suspended their strikes. The ASUU National Treasurer, Dr. Ademola Aremu, while responding to the government's directive, said the threat does not hold water as it has confirmed the fears that the federal government cannot be trusted. The don said, "With the latest action, the federal government has shown that they are not committed to all they have been saying. We are saying that since we agreed at the meeting that the sum of 200 billion naira is for 2012 and 2013 revitalisation, the federal government should deposit same in the Central Bank of Nigerian. We are already in November and December is around the corner. If they don't do that now, when do they want to do it? We are saying the non-victimization clause should be included as agreed while the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement should be included as agreed with the presidents". "It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with union. This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000. We are not in military era. The military tried it and failed. This one will fail again. They can re-open the school. ASUU did not shut down the universities. It was the management of the schools that ordered the students to go back home."

US rapper Wale explains why he's never been to Nigeria until now

In a radio chat with Toolz on Beatfm yesterday, Wale said the reason he's never been to Nigeria until now was because his parents, who are both from Ondo state, were so poor they couldn't afford a bring him home. "I grew up poor. We lived in DC, in the projects. Getting a ticket to Nigeria on $20, 000 income yearly, to my family that wasn't really... you know...like I was a 15 year old with a decent job, I'm not going to save up to go to Nigeria. That wasn't what I was thinking when I was that age. And then I was in college and the money tight right then. And then I get this record deal when I dropped out of school, you're running around so much you don't even have time to see your own parents"

13 Ways to keep your gums and teeth clean and keep them away from harmful organisms

If you have been looking for a way to help keep ur gums and teeth in healthy condition ,this article is specially dedicated to you, after reading this steps carefully I promise you that you will understand ways to protect your teeth. 1. Go on a white-teeth diet What goes in shows up on your teeth. So if you’re drinking a lot of red wine and black tea, or smoking cigarettes, expect the results to show up as not-so-pearly whites. Other culprits include colas, gravies and dark juices. The bottom line: if it’s dark before you put it in your mouth, it will probably stain your teeth. Step one: brush your teeth immediately after having foods that stain. Step two: regularly use a good bleaching agent, either from the pharmacy or your dentist. Step three: be conscious of tooth-staining foods and drinks, and have them only when a toothbrush is around. If not, have an apple for dessert. 2. Use a timer while you brush The ideal amount of time to brush to get all the bacteria-packed plaque out is at least two minutes, researchers found. Use your watch or keep a timer in the bathroom and set it for two minutes. Or find a tune that lasts about two minutes and hum it to the end. 3. Grip your toothbrush like a pencil Does your toothbrush look as if it’s been used to clean the car? If so, you’re probably brushing too hard. Contrary to what some scrub-happy people think, brushing with force is not the best way to remove plaque. The best way is to place your toothbrush at a 45 degree angle against your gums and gently move it in a circular motion, rather than a back-and-forth motion. Grip the toothbrush like a pencil so you won’t scrub too hard. 4. Drink a cup of tea every day Flavonoids and other ingredients in tea seem to prevent harmful bacteria from sticking to teeth, and also block production of a type of sugar that contributes to cavities. Tea also contains high amounts of fluoride. 5. Change your brush Throw away your toothbrush or change the head of your electric toothbrush at least every two to three months. Otherwise, you’re just transferring bacteria to your mouth. 6. Use alcohol-free mouthwash to rinse away bacteria 7 herbal teas that will make you healthier Dos and don'ts of choosing the right toothbrush Are you eating too much sugar? Most over-the-counter mouthwashes have too much alcohol, which can dry out the tissues in your mouth, making them more susceptible to bacteria. Some studies even suggest a link between mouthwashes containing alcohol and an increased risk of oral cancer. To be safe, be a teetotaller when it comes to choosing a mouthwash. 7. Clean your tongue Clean your tongue with a tongue scraper every morning to remove tongue plaque and freshen your breath. A major cause of bad breath is the build-up of bacteria on the tongue, which a daily tongue scraping will help to banish. Using a tongue scraper is more effective than brushing your tongue with a toothbrush. 8. Cut back on sugar Even if you’re an adult, avoid sugary foods. Sugar plus bacteria equals oral plaque. Plaque then leads to bleeding gums, tooth decay and cavities. Plus, the acid in refined sugars and carbonated beverages dissolves tooth enamel. 9. Eat tooth-cleaning foods Foods that are firm or crisp help to clean the teeth as they’re eaten. Apples have already been mentioned; other choices include raw carrots, celery and (unsweetened) popcorn. For best results, make “detergent” foods the final food you eat in your meal if you know you can’t brush your teeth straight after eating. 10. Hydrate Drink about a glass of water for every hour that you’re at work. That way, when you get home, you’ll have had plenty of water for the entire day. Not only does the water help to keep your digestive system healthy and hydrate your skin, but it also helps to keep your teeth white. The more water you drink, the more bacteria you flush off your teeth and out of your mouth, meaning less risk of gum disease, fewer cavities and fresher breath. 11. Keep teeth for eating Keep a bottle opener and a small pair of scissors in your bag or desk drawer. If you have the right gadgets to hand, you won’t be tempted to use your teeth as tools, which can damage them. In fact, never, ever use your teeth as tools for anything except eating. 12. Check your breath To check the freshness of your breath, lick your palm and smell it while it’s still wet. If you smell something, it’s time for a sugar-free breath mint or to brush your teeth. 13. Prevent tooth fractures Suck—don’t chew—very hard foodstuffs such as hard candy or ice. Chewing hard foods creates tiny fractures in the enamel of your teeth that, over the years, combine to result in major cracks. Macaulay Culkin Loves His New Girlfriend And He's Not Afraid To Show It

culkin
Not since his breakup from Mila Kunis in 2011, after eight years of dating, did we see Macaulay Culkin get affectionate with a girl. But that is no longer the case.
Culkin, 33, was spotted in Paris, France, yesterday (Nov. 26) holding hands and kissing his new brunette lady love in public. The two were spotted on the terrace of Cafe de Flore, according to photo agency FameFlynet that secured the photos.
The "Home Alone" star has been keeping a low profile since growing up in the spotlight and has battled rumors of drug addiction in recent years. His public appearances are few and far apart.
The identity of Culkin's girlfriend has yet to be identified.

Akon Denies Discriminating Against Dark-Skinned Girls in Ghana

A Ghanaian fashion blogger, FashionGhana.com, last week claimed that Akon and Wizkid requested for only light-skinned models and refused dark-skinned ones from appearing in their music video. (If you missed it, check on it here). Well, Akon says the reports is absolutely false.
"That doesn't even make any sense, that don't make no sense at all" he told TMZ. When asked again if the story was false, Akon laughed and said 'It's absolutely not true"

9 Tips To Get A Flat Belly

Why bother sucking it in? Especially when there are better, and more effective ways to shrink that tummy
down. Here are just some of our surprising expert tips to help you shed inches and pounds, banish the bloat, and feel even more gorgeous.

Hello, skinny jeans and summer
shorts! Enjoy An Afternoon
Snack “You must eat a snack
that contains protein
between 3 p.m. and 4
p.m. Go for a protein
bar, a piece of low-fat
cheese, or some almonds with an organic apple. No matter what, do not miss that snack. It’s important because it boosts metabolism and
balances blood sugar. The lower you keep your blood sugar, the lower you keep your insulin, and insulin makes you store fat around your middle. Eating every three to four hours will keep your blood sugar even, but many people tend to go five or six hours between lunch and dinner without eating.” Ball Exchange “My No. 1 tip: Do the ball
exchange three times a
week. Lay flat on your
back with your arms
above your head and
legs straight out. Start with a stability ball above your head in
your hands. Bring the
ball up above your chest
as you bring your legs up to meet the ball and place it between your
ankles. Bring the ball back down to the floor with your legs and straighten your arms back out over your head. Repeat the ball exchange 10 to 12 times remembering to keep your lower back pressed into the floor as
you do this move.” Take Time To Chew “Chewing is the No. 1 tip
I give to prevent
bloating. Chew food
until it is like applesauce
in your mouth.
Digestion begins in the mouth, and without
proper chewing, food is
not well-digested.
Better-digested food
means less gas and
bloating.” Focus More On Belly
Balance “I recommend the DCBA
approach: Diet first,
Cardio second, Building
muscle third, and Abs
exercises last. Follow it
and you can safely lose one to two pounds a
week. Spend 60 minutes
a day preparing
healthier meals. Spend
20 minutes a day three
to five times weekly doing cardio. Spend 15
minutes a day three
times a week strength
training. Finally, spend 5
minutes a day three
times a week doing abs exercises.” Switch To Sea Salt “The culprit making
your tummy bloat? It
could be the salt in your
diet. Use natural sea salt
or kosher salt, which is
lower in sodium teaspoon for teaspoon
than traditional table
salts. And stay away
from soy sauce: Even
low-sodium soy sauce is
still high in sodium and will cause practically
instant bloating. Instead, flavor your
food with a little fresh
tomato salsa or a hint of
cayenne pepper, which
has an added benefit of
boosting metabolism.” Box It Out “Add boxing to your
cardio routine. When
you throw punches
with weights or at a
fast pace, you’re
working your core in a way that helps to
flatten your midsection.
You must engage your
core to throw punches,
and twisting your torso
works all the ab muscles. Boxing also gives you a
cardio workout that
burns extra calories.
Add 16 minutes of
boxing three times a
week to your regular cardio routine (30
minutes at high
intensity four to five
times a week), and you
can lose up to 2 inches
from your waist in four weeks. Simply throw
punches while holding
1- or 2-pound weights
for 8 minutes,
alternating arms, then
repeat without weights at a faster pace for 8
more minutes.” Enhance Your Other
Body Parts “Play up a different
body part to draw
attention from your
middle. If it’s your legs, wear
skirts or slim pants.
Shoulders—bare them
even if just a bit with a
boatneck or sweetheart
neckline. Cleavage? Make sure your bra does
its job. If your bra rides
up in the back, the bra
has likely stretched out.
If it accentuates back
flab or if the space between the cups
doesn’t lie flat, go up a
size.” Stop Overeating “Eating portion-
controlled meals that
include whole-grain
foods and
monounsaturated fats
(MUFAs) throughout the day is the best way to
eat for a flat belly:
People who eat whole
grains lose more
abdominal fat. And
making most of the fats you eat MUFAs reduces
ab flab, research says.” Get Familiar With The
Best Belly Foods Best breakfast: A slice
of whole-wheat bread
with natural peanut
butter and 1 cup of your
favorite berries. Best lunch: Spinach salad
with sliced avocado,
grilled firm tofu, and
cherry tomatoes,
drizzled with a little
olive oil and fresh lemon juice. Best dinner: Grilled
salmon, a roasted sweet
potato, and sautéed
asparagus with olive oil
and garlic. Best snack: A cup of fat-
free yogurt with 2
tablespoons sunflower
seeds. Laugh. And Laugh
Some More. “The best thing for your
abs is laughing. Every
time you laugh it
strengthens your abs.
There are even laughing
yoga classes (Go to Laughter Yoga to find a
class near you). If you
start busting a gust, you
are absolutely toning
your abs.”

Van Vicker's first Son Clocks 5year today

The proud father shared these photos on Instagram as he marks his 5-year-old son's birthday.

Indian News:Aarushi Talwar:Parents RajeshandNupurgetlife fordoublemurder

An Indian couple have been sentenced to life in prison for murdering their daughter, Aarushi Talwar, and their Nepalese servant, Hemraj Banjade. Rajesh and Nupur Talwar were found guilty on Monday of murder, destroying evidence and misleading investigators. Their 14-year-old daughter was found murdered at their home in May 2008. Suspicion initially fell on Hemraj until his bludgeoned body was found on the Talwars' roof just one day later. The murders generated huge interest in India, with every twist and turn in the case receiving wall-to-wall coverage. Prosecutors sought the death sentence arguing that this was "the rarest of rare cases" but the defence team argued that the couple were widely respected professionals. The Talwars' lawyers have said they will appeal against the verdict. Judge Shyam Lal based Monday's verdict on circumstantial evidence as key forensic evidence had been lost during two flawed investigations. "Parents are the best protectors of their own children. That is the order of human nature but there have been freaks in the history of mankind where the father and mother become the killer of their own progeny," Mr Lal said in his judgement. Aarushi was found with her throat slit and a fatal head injury in her own bedroom, next door to her parents' room at their home in the affluent Delhi suburb of Noida. Prosecutors alleged that the Talwars killed their daughter in a rage when they found her in a compromising situation with Hemraj. They also argued that Aarushi's throat was slit in a manner indicating someone with medical skills, and that the two victims were hit by a golf club that was initially hidden by the Talwars. The prosecutors said the crime scene had also been dressed to mislead investigators. In the early days of the police investigation, Aarushi was described as a girl of "loose moral character" who chatted with boys and went for "sleepovers" at friends' homes. Such statements prompted an outcry from women's and child rights groups. Some experts say the case highlighted a "clash of cultures" within India, pitting police and conservative sectors of society against what they saw as the "excesses of the upper middle class". Nevertheless, the case enthralled India, receiving almost unprecedented levels of media scrutiny. Source : CNN

Sony launches three high-end cameras, priced Rs 84,990 onwards

Strangely, Sony has been the most innovative camera manufacturer over the past year, not Canon, not Nikon. After the stupendous success of its RX100 premium compact camera in India, the company has now launched a ‘bridge-style’ Cyber-shot RX10 promsing great picture quality in a compacy body. It has also announced two high-end full frame mirrorless cameras, the Alpha 7 and Alpha 7R. The Cyber-shot RX10 will have a fixed Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* 24-200mm F2.8 lens which will cover almost all the needs of the average user from macro to the telephoto. The F2.8 maximum aperture means the camera will do well in low light, but not as good as the F1.8 lens on the RX100 series. Like in the DSC-RX100 II, the 20.2 effective megapixels (approximate) 1.0-type back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor is around four times bigger than those in standard compact cameras. The camera also has Full HD video in 50p or cinematic 25p frame rates. To assist in video recording there will be a audio level meter with adjustable levels. Plus, on-board Wi-Fi allows easy one-touch connection with an Xperia or any other NFC-compatible Android smartphone or tablet. The Cyber-shot RX10 can also connect to an iOS device over the air. The camera will be available by the end of December and will cost Rs 84,990. While the Alpha 7 has 24.3 effective megapixels, the 7R has a stupendous 36.4 effective megapixels. The camera will also usher in six new full-frame lenses in this range. The 35mm full-frame Exmor CMOS sensor in both cameras incorporates light concentration and photo diode expansion technologies, while the Alpha 7R also features a new ‘gapless’ on-chip lens design that eliminates gaps between adjacent pixels. These advances increase light collection efficiency, achieving outstanding resolution, sensitivity and low noise while circumventing the challenge of decreased pixel size due to the extremely high pixel count. These cameras too have Wi-Fi and NFC. We Won’t Take Part in Anambra Supplementary Election —Nwoye, Ubah, Ngige

The governorship candidates of Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party and the All Progressive Congress have said that they will not participate in the November 30 supplementary in Anambra State. The candidates are Tony Nwoye (PDP), Ifenayi Ubah (LP) and Chirs Ngige of the APC. Ngige, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues at a briefing in Abuja on Saturday, said that the three candidates would not like to be used as 'guinea pig" to give legitimacy to the controversial election. He said that the register used for the electron was printed in Enugu. Specifically, he said that the voter register used in the Agulu ward of the Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, featured under age voters. Ngige insisted that the voter register given to the parties was different from the one used for the election by the INEC, adding that they had great pains as the state did not have enough NYSC members as presiding officers. He accused INEC of using students of Unizik as presiding officers, saying, "We have evidence that Unizik students were used as presiding officers." Ngige alleged that the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State, Prof Onukaogu served as the head of a cabal that rigged the election, adding that the INEC administrative inquiry did not give them a fair hearing. He said, "The INEC administrative inquiry is of no value and therefore we will not participate in the supplementary election. "The election has no result sheet. All we are saying is that the electoral officer of Idemili north, Chukwujekwu Okeke did not act alone. He is part of a syndicate that rigged the election. "We will want to reassure Anambra people that we are here to fight for them. What happened in Anambra State was not proper. If those who rigged the election are allowed to escape, then annulment of my election in 2006 was not proper. They said that my election was tainted, hence it was annulled. I have repented. "We have rejected the November 30 supplementary election". Uba said, " I will not be part of the November 30 charade." The PDP candidate, Nwoye said he would not take part in the supplementary election slated for November 30. "My participation is to give credibility to the charade called November 30 supplementary election," he said

5 tips for overcoming the fear of being bold in a public conversation

I’m treating on being bold – whether it’s in a face to face conversation or in a presentation. In the past, I’ve often swallowed down what I say to avoid upsetting anyone. Many of the people that I coach are concerned about being bold. As a result, they dilute their message so much that they have 0% impact on their audience. Many people quote FDR who said “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.” His wife’s more practical challenge inspires me more: “Do one thing every day that scares you.” Eleanor didn’t argue that we should avoid or try to beat fear, but recognize it and move forward anyway. Cultivate an attitude of boldness Being bold is not something that you can “pull out of a hat” when you’re giving a presentation or speech. You need to develop an attitude of speaking out in your day to day life. Otherwise you won’t develop the courage to be bold in your presentations. Practice saying what’s on your mind when you’re with just one other person or a small group. I’ve found blogging to be extremely useful in helping me be bold. Some posts I’ve written have taken me some time to publish because of my fear, but having done so I’m bolder. Here are some thoughts to help you develop an attitude of boldness in everyday life. 1.  Stop being nice What stops me being bold is that I want to be liked, I want to be nice. I don’t want to have to deal with anyone being upset or offended by what I’ve said. It’s worked for me in many ways, but it holds me back too. 2. Saying what you think enhances your career Do you hold back saying what you think because you want to make sure that everything you say makes perfect sense and is supported by evidence? Same here. But its ovious  that people who speak up more are seen as leaders. What people said didn’t have to be particularly brilliant or clever or original more than your speech. So don’t worry about being perfect, just speak up. 3. Not saying what you think annoys people I’ve sometimes held back on saying what I think being scared that it will upset people. Then the situation deteriorates and I end of saying what I think, only to be told “Why you didn’t tell me that earlier?” 4. Get rid of weasel words Do you maggi your phrases with weasel words and phrases? Like “I’d just like to” or “sort of” or “kind of”. They reduce the power and boldness of your ideas. You may not know you’re doing this. So either record yourself and listen back, or ask a friend to examine you.

President Jonathan threatens SaharaReporters with libel, defamation

Found this news on Sahara Reporters. Apparently the president is threatening to sue the online news agency for defamation for reporting that his health problems while in London may have been caused by heavy partying in celebration of his birthday last week.

Meanwhile, presidential spokesman Reuben Abati said yesterday that the president will return to Nigeria today having been certified fit to travel after receiving treatment for acute abdominal pains. The doctors said no surgical intervention was required. Sahara Reporters libel report below...

Nigeria leader, President Goodluck Jonathan, has threatened to take SaharaReporters to court for reporting that his health problems in London during the week may have resulted from heavy partying in celebration of his 56th birthday.

In a statement by his spokesman, Reuben Abati, the president condemned what he called the “utterly irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of certain fringe elements operating in the nebulous sphere of cyberspace who persist in seizing every opportunity to unjustifiably malign and impugn the character and integrity of the elected leader of their country.”

He said it was regrettable that while the public had been duly informed that Mr. Jonathan had received precautionary medical attention for an unexpected indisposition in London in compliance with the leader’s standing instruction that Nigerians must never be kept in the dark about the state of his health, SaharaReporters and other reckless, lawless, impudent and unpatriotic internet-based ignored the official script “with their entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts.”

Reiterating the denial of a party in London to celebrate President Jonathan's birthday on Wednesday night, Abati said the president upon arrival spent the day in the privacy of his hotel room and that it has never been his custom to celebrate birthday anniversaries. In particular, there was certainly no drinking spree, he claimed.

“As unregulated as they are, SaharaReporters and their ilk are not beyond the bounds of legal action for libel and willful defamation of the character and reputation of a President who has courageously stepped forward to serve his country,” the statement threatened.

“They know very well that they can never substantiate or prove the constant false allegations and innuendoes they publish for the sole purpose of negatively portraying President Jonathan and his administration.

“Their incessant claim of a bibulous President is pure fiction and blackmail, and the product of malicious imagination. We warn that our forbearance of their disrespectful caricaturing of the President is not limitless.”

Despite Mr. Jonathan’s threats and deployment of scare tactics, SaharaReporters stands by its account of the events in London in the past few days.

While we have the attention of the president and the hawks in the presidency, we take this opportunity to draw their attention to the scandalous quality of Nigerian governance that SaharaReporters and most of the Nigerian media have been reporting for many years, of which his government forms only a part.

As the 2015 election approaches and Mr. Jonathan tries to invite the sympathy of Nigerians in his favor, we challenge him to prove— including in a court of law—that these reports have been “entirely fictional, malicious, hate-driven and scurrilous distortion of the facts.”

Tonto Dike's Profile (Biography)

Tonto Charity Dikeh, also known as Tonto Dike (born June 9, 1985) is a Nigerian actress and singer from Rivers State and is of the Ikwerre tribe.[1] Dikeh, is from a family of seven,.[1] In 2005 she competed against other contestants on a reality TV show called The Next Movie Star; she was the first runner up. Dikeh's appearance on the show was as a means of getting closer to the "big time", she says,[1] and her start in the Nigerian movie industry came soon after.[1] Dikeh says that after her second movie Holy Cross, more movie directors and producers were willing to cast her, and she has appeared in scores of movies since. Dikeh's role in the movie Dirty Secret has generated controversy amongst Nigerians, because the movie contains nude scenes. Pope meets FIFA chief, Italy-Argentine rugby teams

VATICAN CITY (AP) — Pope Francis met Friday with the head of FIFA and members of the Italian and Argentine national rugby teams.
Francis told the rugby players in town for a match on Saturday that theirs was a "tough" sport but one without violence, where individual and team greatness complement one another. Francis also met Friday with FIFA chief Joseph Blatter.
"We spoke the same language and it was language of football," Blatter said. "It was really a meeting between two sportsmen and two football fans."
Blatter said he responded to the pope's request for FIFA to help the favelas, or slums, of Rio de Janeiro during the 2014 World Cup, with a promise to "do what we can."
"We cannot do everything," Blatter said.
The soccer-mad Francis, a longtime member of his beloved San Lorenzo club in Buenos Aires, has amassed an impressive collection of soccer jerseys as gifts from visiting teams and players.
The two also unwittingly wound up confronting the relative strength in the numbers of active participants in their institutions, with those involved in football, including players and their families, slightly outnumbering Roman Catholics worldwide.
"We have 1.2 billion people and (the pope) said, 'I have no more than 1 billion,'" Blatter said with a laugh.

Nigerian businessman Tony Elumelu makes $123million in 3 weeks

According to Forbes Africa, former United Bank for Africa (UBA) Managing director, and chairman of Heirs Holdings, Tony Elumelu made $123million in just three weeks. Wow! Read below... From Forbes It’s just paper gains, but it counts. Nigerian banker Tony O. Elumelu has become at least $123 million richer between November 1 and November 21 as shares of Transcorp PLC, a Nigerian-Stock Exchange-listed conglomerate, surged 186% in that period. Transnational Corporation Of Nigeria, usually referred to as Transcorp, is an emerging conglomerate holding investments in hotels, power and agriculture. On November 1, the company’s stock was trading at N1.87 ($0.01), and at the close of trading today (Thursday), the stock was trading at N5.35 ($5.35). According to an analyst who did not want to be quoted, there has been an unprecedented demand for Transcorp’s shares at the bourse on account of the company’s recent acquisition of the Ughelli Power plant, a strategic power generation company that the government recently sold in a privatization exercise. Transcorp PLC, under Elumelu’s leadership, acquired the plant for $300 million. Transcorp officially took over the plant on November 1. Investors are scrambling for the stock in anticipation of the long-term impact the new acquisition will likely have on Transcorp’s financial results. Elumelu began gobbling up shares in the company in April 2011 through his wholly-owned proprietary investment vehicle, Heirs Holdings. In September 2011, he was appointed chairman of the company, promising to diversify the company’s business interests and deliver value to shareholders – promises he seems to have delivered on. He currently owns over 5.7 billion shares of the company (5,745,890,693 to be exact, according to Transcorp’s latest corporate filings), held in his own name and via Heirs Holdings, equating to a 22.26% stake, making him the company’s largest individual shareholder. His shares in Transcorp alone are now valued at N30.7 billion or $188 million. A representative for Elumelu could not be reached for comment at press time. Elumelu made his fortune by acquiring a small, struggling Nigerian commercial bank and building it into the United Bank of Africa Group, a leading financial services institution with operations in several African countries as well as in New York and London. He stepped down as the bank’s CEO in 2010 to focus on investing in African businesses through his private investment vehicle, Heirs Holdings and to groom Africa’s next generation of business leaders through his Tony Elumelu Foundation.
